I have naturally dark hair, but I have blonde highlights that I am trying to grow out. I want to cover up the blonde to let them grow out without it looking horrible. But, I don't want the blonde to turn out red. Which color do you think would help the blonde not to turn red? What is the best color 2 die ur hair when u have naturally dark roots, %26amp; u want 2 cover up blonde highlights?
Do the color to match the roots. If you are doing this yourself go with something that has ash in its name. For instance Dark ash brown, medium ash brown, or light ash brown. If your roots are dark brown, I would go with medium ash brown. Ash colors tone down brassy or orange. I like the new color match color by L'Oreal. It has no ammonia in it and is color calibrated. Good luckWhat is the best color 2 die ur hair when u have naturally dark roots, %26amp; u want 2 cover up blonde highlights?
well, i just went dark again after blonde highlights... my hair stylist friend did it for me, and she put a reddish color on over the blonde before going dark, to keep it from getting what she calls ';muddy';... which she is right. i tried doing it myself once, and the blone actually turned a greenish color... i dont know if I would try doing it yourself... good luck
umm i have the same problem as you and i found that dying it close to the natural color of my hair covered up my highlights and it looked a lot better
It depends of ur skin color, but brown is pretty neutral so... it could help. Good luck!
Your natural color would work fine.
Have it done professionally and take it just a tad lighter than your roots where they are darkest...
Your best bet is to go to a salon that uses Redken Shades EQ. It is a semi-permanent color that last 6 to 8 weeks and just fades off. It is a very conditioning color and can match nearly everones natural color. The bleach on your hair may grab the color and it may last longer than 8 weeks. But for best results let a professional do it.
The blonde will only turn red if the dye you put over it has red in it. I would suggest that you dye your hair as close as possible to your natural color..the blonde won't be as dark as the rest, but it will be close, until all the highlites completely grow out.
find the closest thing to your natural hair color the highlights will still show up but will be greatly mutted if you want a reddish brown the highlights wont nessisarily turn red just a lighter color than the rest of your hair

How can I safely cover blonde highlights?
I had my hair done yesterday and while I can deal with the cut, I hate the color. I asked for lowlights and instead the hairdresser gave me blonde highlights. I think it might be ok if there weren't so many of them, but I looks fake and washed out. I don't want to go back to her so I am wondering if it's ok to use a store-bought box of brown hair dye to cover the blonde? I'm ok if it's darker/lighter brown. I just don't want to end up with green hair.
She said she used a tint and then this color if that helps. How can I safely cover blonde highlights?
you are besst to use a semi permanant in a warm(not red ) or golden shade . whatever you put on will fade even permanant .the hi lites should come through after a few weeks , but a more natural colour .How can I safely cover blonde highlights?
I tried to go over my blonde highlights with store bought brown color. At first it was good, but the brown faded quick and I'm back with blonde highlights!
you might be wrong for tryin it yourself . in case you did not see ... talk to your ';professional hair dresser'; she will most likely follow the rule of ';give the customer what they want'; and at a minimul fee correct what is undesired. oh yeah (...)
You must go back to the salon. The stylist is responsible for the color of your hair and your satisfaction. Clearly you are not happy. As uncomfortable as you may feel going back, you paid good money and deserve getting the service that you wanted and expected. I am a hair stylist, I would want you to return instead of bad mouthing my salon or myself as a colorist. Give the girl a chance to make good with your color, perhaps you need another procedure to pull up the color or a toner to tone it down. This will all be free of charge and you will get a conditioner which you are gonna need too. If you do it your self then you are responsible and then the results are no longer the stylist or the salons mistake. Everyone makes mistakes and even maybe it takes more than one time to make your color the one that you want. PLEASE call them today and book an appointment. You will feel so much better after you do, I promise.
when hair is lightened, the undertone is lifted out of the hair. in brown hair, it would be a redish undertone...
so, when going darker again, the reddish undertone has to be replaced or else hair will turn green (red is opposite of green, will cancel out the green).
so, in going darker, pick a brown color with some red in it or at least some gold in it. the darker the brown, the more red you'll need.
so, use a bonzed brown, auburn brown, reddish brown, or golden brown.
It sounds like a miscommunication- I would have the low-lights added by someone else in the salon. Why settle for something you don't want? If you cover all of the light, you are just going to have to contend with it when you want lighter again. And you will want to be lighter again- especially going into summer. Just call the manager and explain the situation. They should be very accommodating.

I've dyed my hair black for about 2 yrs now and ready for a change. How do I do blonde highlights myself??
Keep in mind I have curly thick black hair.
I've done highlights before but it is very expensive to do this in a Salon in my area ($250-$300). So I want to have one of my friends to do it for me. What developer should I use? What should be the process? Should I lighten my hair first before using bleach?I've dyed my hair black for about 2 yrs now and ready for a change. How do I do blonde highlights myself??
I would never highlight or color my hair myself, especially if it's black. Black is the hardest color to color over, it should be done by a professional. If you try to do it yourself or have your friend do it, you're going to look rediculous and still wind up having to go to a salon to correct it. When it comes to your hair, don't skimp, do it right the first time. Cut back on costs from other things if money is tight, like less going out to eat, less movies, less clothes buying. There are alot of things you can go cheap on, your hair shouldn't be one of them.I've dyed my hair black for about 2 yrs now and ready for a change. How do I do blonde highlights myself??
if your hair is black right now then if u use a product from the store itll turn out orangish cause your hair is dark. you would need to leave the bleach on for a LONG time and thats risking your hair breaking off and having 3 inch hair. where im at it only cost 40 bucks. just search around some more for a cheaper hair salon
i dont know about the rest but i would lighten your hair first or the blonde highlits will go ginger.

Shampoo to bring out natural blonde highlights?
My hair is a sandy blonde color and I want to bring out the natural blonde highlights. I would prefer not to use the lemon juice or sun-in methods. What brand of color-enhancing shampoo should I use? I know Sunsilk, John Frieda, and Pantene have color-enhancing shampoo and conditioner, but is there any others? If you've used any color-enhancing hair products, which brand did you think worked the best? I don't want hair that's too blonde, just subtle highlights. Thanks!Shampoo to bring out natural blonde highlights?

What you can you do to stop your blonde highlights showing through with dark brown roots?
i have had such a disaster with my hair and the stupid hairdresser has put blonde highlightes on it. now the roots are really badly showing through and i don't know what to do.any suggestions? What you can you do to stop your blonde highlights showing through with dark brown roots?
root touch-up...What you can you do to stop your blonde highlights showing through with dark brown roots?
Here's what I did. I used a colored mousse to hide my blonde highlights until I could get my hair dyed.

I used a semi-perm hair color to dye my hair. Semi-perm doesn't have amonia so it won't damage your hair. It just puts color on top of your hair color. It also ads shine.

if you buy hair toner for brown hair you can do that and the blonde in your hair won't stand out as much they only cost up to 30p and it shoulden't take them to long to dye down
Temporary dye over the blonde (or have it pro done, I'd complain if the hairdresser made a mistake, they usually fix it for free.)
Go back to the salon that did your hair and make them fix it.
Wear a hat or dye your hair all one color.
persnally i think its cute when hair is like that.. thats how my hair is..
either get more highlights or wait till they grow out
dye ur whole head 1 color or re hilight ur hair

Went from blonde highlights to red toned, its way to red bow do i get it out?
i just had gorgeous brown hair with woven in highlights and it looked more natural,, not big streaks and recently just had my hair dyed like today and we toned it to a red brown but it came out extremely red. i really want less red how do i get it out.Went from blonde highlights to red toned, its way to red bow do i get it out?
Wash your hair a lot... with shampoo.Went from blonde highlights to red toned, its way to red bow do i get it out?
You should wait to see how much it will fade before you do any chemical treatments to your hair. I suggest waiting about two to three weeks if your hair was in really good health to try slowly tone in with more brown, or you can try stripping it and starting all over. You can either go to a stylist for this (which I recommend) or try doing it yourself if you really know what you are doing. But be very careful because treated hair can be very fragile and with too many products can cause it to burn up and fall off.
The good news is that red washes out quicker than any other color...to keep from damaging your hair any further, just wash it out!
some people say to use a harsh soap like laundry soap
