How long should you leave it before you dye over blonde highlights?

I have a hairdresser that comes to my house, and today I had blonde highlights put in. However, they are exactly what I didnt want, and I really need to cover them up. How long should I leave them before I dye over them, and should I use permanent dye or semi-permanent?How long should you leave it before you dye over blonde highlights?
hair does not repair itself, once it leaves the scalp it is dead and you can't repair what is already dead can you? so it doesn't really matter whether you colour over them today or in 2 weeks time - your hair will react in exactly the same way. what does matter however is that if your hair has been bleached blonde and you are intending to colour over with a dark brown dye without first adding a red filler then your hair will most likely turn a muddy shade of green. whenever hair is stripped of the natural pigment and undertones then in order to go back to the dark colour then those undertones need to be put back IN. we ALL have red undertones which is why hair turns red/orange/ginger on its way to pale yellow / blonde. you need a red semi tint like Wella viva colour mousse in 645 garnet red. once this is washed out then you should apply a permanent tint in a shade 2 shades lighter than what you are hoping to achieve as with previously colored hair it is generally porous meaning the colour will develop 2 shades darker than what you would expect with natural hair. try something with a green base (the green will neutralise the red, it won't SHOW on your hair, it is the BASE tone) like Miss clairol 32D moon haze: http://www.clairolpro.com/dispensary/swa鈥?/a> there is a LOT more to hair colouring than just choosing a colour you like and applying it - which is why us hairdessers train for so long! How long should you leave it before you dye over blonde highlights?
When ever you lighten your hair, it makes it more porous like a sponge. So, keeping this in mind, you should wait at least a few days and then try a semi-permanent dye. Don't go a lot darker because the color will ';Grab';, meaning go darker than you'd think because your hair is more porous now. For the best results, you should call the hair dresser back and explain this to her or seek help from another one. It's always risky to do dye jobs at home.
i would wait for either 7 days or 14 washes, summink like that, just make sure your blonde has settles otherwise when you use dye your hair will go green
GET IT DONE AT A SALON OTHERWISE IT WILL GO GREEN OR WORSE FALL OUT.ID LEAVE IT 7 DAYS TO LET IT CALM DOWN AND IN THE MEANTIME USE PLENTY OF MOISTURISER AFTER EVERY WASH.
